New Georgian Alphabet

In my hometown Tbilisi in Georgia, my friends take to the streets on a daily basis to protest Georgia’s departure from its pro-democratic course and return to Russia’s orbit. The drawings I make in Georgia in April of 2025 seem empty to me, and so I join the people on the streets.
On my way Rustaveli Avenue, the main boulevard where many large demonstrations have taken place since 1989, I take photos of the protest texts scrawled on the buildings’ façades and walls. The next day, I find these texts crossed out and I photograph them once again. I make a drawing in which I cross out Georgian letters arranged in alphabetical order and write “New Georgian Alphabet” beneath them. I draw several of these, sell them online, and send the proceeds to cover the penalties of people fined for protesting. Some of them are sentenced to four to seven years, and many are forced to flee the country.
