What Georgian Women Do in Istanbul

2006

Medium: Performance, video, spoken word, dance, movement

Project by: Khinkali Juice

Location: Apartment project, Istanbul, Turkey

This performance dealt with prejudice against Georgian sex workers and salespeople, who do business in Turkey since the fall of the Soviet borders in 1991. Here we played with themes such as crossing the Georgian-Turkish border, things that happen on that border, luggage and passport control that can be a humiliating and harsh reality for many Georgians. But we also showed the promo video of hotel resorts that advertise good and luxury lifestyles for the visitors of Turkey.
