In response to the exhibition’s theme – void, I decided to make a site-specific installation and started exploring the surroundings of the gallery. Directly in front of it, I discovered the ventilation shafts covered by metal grids. Two types of trees, a fig and a chestnut were growing in these shafts full of garbage and cigarette butts. I focused on the fig tree to question what grows in a polluted urban environment, and how much we know about the source of fruits that we eat.

My aim was to magnify and show the beauty of what is concealed, to give this fig tree another meaning and dimension. I made a drawing of this tree, enlarged it, and installed it in the passage next to the gallery with the large text underneath: Would you eat fruit from this tree? The dots on the ground were connecting the drawing with the hidden tree.
