Just Fence It

2010

Medium: Wood and burned wooden plates

Dimensions: Various

Project: Frozen Moments: Architecture Speaks Back

Curator: Joanna Warsza

Location: Former Ministry of Transportation, Tbilisi, Georgia

This work was an ironic and critical reference to the privatization of state and public property in Georgia at that time. It also referred to the building where the project took place. Soon after the exhibition, this iconic Soviet building – the former Ministry of Highways – was renovated and reopened as the Bank of Georgia headquarters.

When this exhibition took place, the building was in a run-down state, and many broken window were covered with wooden panels. Following the same logic, on these panels I added cut-out letters made with the same material that in Georgian said – მთავარია იყიდო და შემოღობო / Just buy and fence it.
