Make Time Disappear

2011

Medium: Embroidery

Location: My apartment window on Sonnenallee, Berlin, Germany

I used to make drawings, lots of drawings. The drawing was what would make time stop, but then I stopped. Later I started making installations, performances, films, and ceramics, but time no longer seemed to stop when I worked. People, who know me well, repeatedly told me that I should draw again. But somehow I could not. My work became more conceptual, and I could no longer trust the intuitive terrain that drawing was for me. It did not feel safe…

This was the text that I wrote for my Tumblr account where I used to post my drawings. At the same time, the reconstruction of my house started in Berlin and there was scaffolding between my window and the street clock. I decided it was a sign and made time disappear in a very literal way.
